Stewpot Art Show celebrates 20 years at the Dallas Public Library
The Dallas Public Library’s Stewpot Artists exhibition provides the public with an opportunity to purchase unique art with a true story.
“We have artists that sew and draw at the library when they don’t have access to the studio at the Stewpot,” said Fine Arts Division Manager Heather Lowe. “It’s nice to see their work on display here.” The exhibit is in the Bradshaw Gallery, on the fourth floor of the Central Library at 1515 Young St. until Jan. 28 and is open to the public during regular library hours.
The Stewpot Art Program is for homeless and at-risk people in Downtown Dallas. The artists keep 90 percent of the revenue from painting sales, with 10 percent going back to the Stewpot Open Art Program. Price lists can be provided by the Stewpot for those who want to purchase any of the artwork.
Lowe describes this year’s exhibition, now in its 20th year at the Library as a “vibrant, energy-filled experience” which includes abstract, folk, self-taught, and representational and many other style of painting, drawing and collage. “It’s a Dallas tradition that shouldn’t be missed if you love Downtown and art,” she said.
